Currently I am: Enjoying my time with the kids on their Summer holidays. We haven’t done everything I wanted to do but I’ve realised the kids have wanted to chill after a very long term (7 weeks). This year it has only been 5 weeks off school, I don’t think know they will be looking forward to going back on the 2nd.
Reading: Ben Aaronovitch’s Peter Grant series. After reading Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, someone recommended then to me.There are another 3 books in the series with a 5th on it’s way.If you like mystical and magic themes set in the modern world then this series is for you.
Listening to: Not so many albums this month. As now my Spotify subscription has stopped after joining Deezer I’ve been following their recommendations based on what I listen to.All new to me artists include Matt Corby, a 23 year old Australian singer and songwriter, Matthew Mayfield, 30 year American singer and songwriter, Ben Howard a 27 year old London born singer songwriter and lastly Lewis Watson a 21 year old singer songwriter from Oxford. As the kids are home the music been played at home has been much more mellow and um, kid friendly. You never realise how sweary or inappropriate some lyrics can be until you little ones around.
Laughing at: The Last Leg, Virtually Famous, Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy 2: Tales from Painted Hawaii and repeats of The Inbetweeners.
Swooning over: Yup, still Benedict Cumberbatch. After waiting patiently to do his Ice Bucket challenge for ALS/MND charities, he rewarded
me everyone with this. *SIGHS DEEPLY*
Planning: The garden is slowly taking shape now.The decking is down and I have been collecting seeds from my dad’s, my mum’s and passing gardens for the nature bit of the garden. We have slow worms breeding under what I had planned to be the bug house, until they go I’m sorting a pond and planting almost everything I have in pots into the ground.I have been reading about veg to grow over Winter in the containers.Painting resumes in mine and Kieran’s room over the next few days now the weather has cooled down.
Eating lots of : Blackberries! I haven’t seen such a bumper harvest before. All the blackberries, elderberries, sloes, hawthorn are a month early.I’m busy making so many different preserves this year so look out recipes over the next week or two.
Feeling: Lonely. After meeting up with a few bloggers for a picnic in Regent’s Park last Saturday, I decided I need to be out more and even contemplating the whole dating thing.I have plans to go out next week with a friend, hoping to make it a regular thing along with meeting up with blogger friends. We had planned to go to Legoland after reading Mari’s Legoland Windsor tips.
Discovering: How to propagate plants, more ways to clean the house without chemicals and more embroidery techniques.
Watching at the cinema: Me and Kip went and watched Planet of the Apes:Dawn of the Apes for his late birthday present last month. It was his first official 12A viewing at the cinema.(I’m quite lenient with ratings at home.Probably won’t win parenting awards for that but hey ho!) with him getting towards teen hood, I know he won’t be wanting to do much with me and his sisters as a family, so I’m making the most of one on one quality time together with him.
Wearing: It’s turned Autumnal this week.I’m scouring the second hand shops this week for jumpers and updating my tights.I tend to wearing lots of skirts and dresses in the Winter and coloured tights are a big must for me.
Cooking: We’ve kind of slipped back into eating meat.Cat turned 9 last weekend and I showed her how to cook a fry up which included sausages and bacon. For those who always thought we are strict vegies and vegans, we’re not.We don’t eat a lot of meat, until recently if ever and vegan cooking is because of Kip’s allergy to eggs.
Wondering: If I should have my hair cut short.I’m going back to red for the Autumn and Winter months and thought I might go the whole hog with a new hair cut.
Making: Blackberry brandy with a few elderberries, damsons and plums thrown in.All from the area where my lives.Urban foraging has been a bit of a passion of mine over the last few years. You don’t need to be in the countryside to pick free fruit.I’ve also made lots of fans, cards and loom bands and Hama beads creations after reading Rebecca’s 100 Crafts for kids post.
And so that’s me right here, right now. What has your month been like? I find these kind of posts reveal a bit more about me and I would love to read what you’ve been up to. Go off and write about yourself using the headings I’ve used ( I’ll change them monthly).Remember to link back to this post and add your link to the to the blog hop.If you have time, pop over to a few of the others to get inspired.
