We went off to Weston-Super-Mare a couple of weeks ago, as Mouse has to complete a list of things to do for the Summer holidays as part of her school homework.I thought jumping the waves in the sea and catching a crab would be easily done.
The kids loved getting wet but as the tide was in, it wasn’t possible to visit the rock pools to catch a crab. The weather was cold, windy and raining for most part of the day, we picnicked near Jill Dando’s Garden (separate post) after an hour on the beach. The kids unanimously chose going to The Weston-Super-Mare Sand Sculpture Festival over visiting The Aquarium.Once in, the girls found themselves a patch of sand in the corner of the exhibition set aside for kids to play, digging to their heart’s content whilst me and Kip walked around to look at the sculptures. It’s a very impressive exhibition, definitely worth the £10 I paid. There is a wi-fi for Facebook check-ins, a few of the exhibits allow you to sit for a photo opportunity and there is picnic table seating near the sand castle building area. There were still spots as we walked round that looked like the beginnings of more exhibits, so we didn’t get to see the completed sculptures.
This year wa the 10th anniversary, so the best sculptures from the past years years are on display. The Ocean Beauty and Big Blue Whale were my favourites, the kids loved the Minion.Despite the dismal weather, the place was busy and my three thoroughly enjoyed themselves, so we’ll be back again next year for sure.
Before we left Weston, I took a very brave decision to go on the ferris wheel. For £15 we got to go around and around and slightly side to side in the wind, for about 5 minutes. As I’m trying to overcome my fear of heights, I eventually managed to stop holding onto the pole and look up to video the ride.
I may have soiled myself in the process.
