Friday 17th June
A whole day indoors catching up with housework and ironing today.I only spent time outside doing the school run, which was 30 minutes altogether.
Saturday 18th June
The kids saw their dad today and with house up together, I was off out to spend some time in the sun.I ended up doing 18,000 steps all along the river to Monkton Park and past the golf course to Baydons Meadow.
Sunday 19th June
Today we headed off to Bowood house and gardens, a short bus ride from us.This was the same weekend as the Bowood Dog Show, so the grounds were heaving with cars.We took a picnic to eat lunch and sat by the folly Temple by the lake, which my mum had never seen before. Then we walked across the grounds, passing swathes of long grass and meadow flowers grow.We look around the gardens before unleashing the kids into the huge adventure playground.
Monday 20th June
The usually yearly debate over whether today or tomorrow was the summer solstice ensued on the internet.I always ‘feel’ the seasons, as a nature doesn’t wear a watch. The lily like Lords and Ladies have now started to show their green berries.
Tuesday 21st June
We have been here two years now and we haven’t done a lot to the garden in that time.I did sow numerous packets of wild flower and easy growing cottage flowers over our front lawn, only the Iceland poppies grew. This year we’ve had fox glove, evening primrose and this newly emerging teasel.
Wednesday 22nd June
Scarlet Tiger moths are emerging everywhere now.I caught this one as I took a walk into town, passing along the river bank it flew up from the path.
Thursday 23rd June
Today I headed off to Caerphilly castle in Wales with Mouse’s class trip.I haven’t been to a castle since I was a kid, so I was looking forward to learning about the history behind it.The grounds are vast with many Canadian geese making themselves at home.
